When was the last time you heard about anything other than blizzards striking Wyoming. No tornados, no hurricanes, and nearly no people to bug you. The state has a population of less than half a million people as of the last census.

I live in Upstate New York and I can tell you that I know of no hurricanes here in my lifetime and I am 61 years old. Once in a great while, we will get a strong wind storm which leaves us all wondering, "was that a tornado?" Just doesn't happen here.

It really depends on what you mean by safe. Unfortunately, every place has its own little risk factors. However, if you look at the history, it appears the upper midwest is pretty safe (as long as you don't mind some snow and cold winters). For example, Michigan, Wisconsin, Minnesota don't get a lot of severe weather.

I think New England. We never have tornados, earthquakes, or anything like that. The worse we get is hurricanes, but they happen very rarely. The land is not too dry so we don't have forest fires, and it doesn't rain all the time so there isnt much flooding.

upper midwest is safe for the most part from tornados, and if hurricanes hit you know everyone else is screwed. there is a fault like through central IL so earthquakes are possible. other than that the only dangers are blizzards and flooding

You don't mind a BLIZZARD on occassion? Maybe New York, or Maine, or how about International Falls, WISCONSIN? It only goes to -65F degrees in the winter. They don't get hurricanes.
Point in saying? EVERYWHERE a tornado can strike. You have to decide what environment puts greater limitations on your lifestyle.
