Depends on the person... They could read to learn how to cook or build something, to learn something new about a person, animal, place they want to go. They could read to escape from their lives for a few minutes and imagine themselves in the stories they read. They could read books about different religions or cultures and learn something that may change their opinions about different things. Some people read books to scare themselves! So figure out what genre of books you enjoy, pick one up and lose yourself in whatever subject you are crazy about. It's a great way to enjoy a rainy day!

I love holding a book and reading! If I am reading fiction, I can go anywhere in the world, or, be a part of any historical period. Or, I can go into the future- without leaving my home!

I learn a lot. I cry. I laugh. When I am finished with the book, I miss the characters as if they were family or close friends.

I also learn a lot from nonfiction- like memoirs. There is so much out there and you can't appreciate it or understand it from watching a tv novel or from a computer.

There are many reasons that people read books - I read. I read 2-3 per week depending on the time of year and what is going on. It's relaxing and stimulating. I enjoy reading.

Others do it to learn. Some do it to get away.

I can tell you why I do. It harnesses far more research than I could ever do alone to help me create a mental map of the world. I grew up in a house with few books, and developed an appetite for them in High School. They enrich my experience, entertain me and give me practical answers to problems I encounter. Even though I don't believe everything I read, I'm fascinated by the chance to see the world through other people's eyes. They give me insight, and are a peaceful and calming way to spend time.

Fictional b ooks can lead to a deeper understanding of psychology and sociology, while non-fiction can provide any kind of knowledge. Also, in Islam, reading books is commanded by the religion.

I read one or two books a week. I love to read about different places and other people's lives.

Sometimes reading is an escape from my life and my issues. It is nice to know other people have issues too.

To broaden their horizons, go to places mentally that may not be possible physically, learn about the history of the world, research subjects of interest, enter into others mind and imagination and experience wonderful things without leaving you living room. Broaden your horizons, through the library, for free. Reading is the spice of life.

Because it helps to relieve stress in my life...for the time that I'm reading I don't have to think about anything else but the characters I'm reading about. And sometimes it helps me to solve a problem I might be facing.
