"LOL" means Laugh Out Loud
Many people use it to express when they think something is funny.
Example:
Bob: That was so funny when you fell over on the floor last night.
Bill: LOL. I know I still can't believe I did that.
There are also a few other variations:LMAO, meaning Laugh My A** Off, LMFAO, meaning Laugh My F***ing A** Off, and ROFL, meaning Roll On the Floor Laughing. Or, you could just use the traditional "haha" represent your laughter.

L.O.L. is one of the popular abbreviations used when posting messages on internet forum, chatting etc... It means "Laughing Out Loud", usually when you say something and you accompany what you say with LOL, the other person who reads the message will understand that you are laughing (smiling) while saying it, in other words joking or just kidding.... Other popular abbreviations used in the internet world today can be LMAO, which means "Laughing My A*s Off", WTF, "What The Fu*k, "BRB, which stands for "Be Right Back" etc etc...
