You can go to Mexico without speaking any Mexican, but you will look as foolish as the people who come here and know no English.

You seem to have a language problem and have been grossly misinformed about what has been chosen by god to lead the world.
Mexican people speak the language (Spanish) of the country of origin because its easier from them and more familiar. All immigrants in this century will speak English eventually. You can go to Mexico and speak "American", the inhabitants are kindly toward the mentally challenged.

Most of the people here are correct about the language. However, there are different kinds of both english and spanish. American and Queen's English. Latino and Caucassian Spanish. So why not call the language by the country. I know I have trouble understanding some things the British say, and I don't know a lick of spanish either way. I move that we change the name of our official language to American and force everyone to speak it. At least everyone isn't moving to ebonics.

I lived in Mexico for years without speaking Spanish. Thing is, I behaved like a decent human being rather than an arrogant know-it-all freak from Los Estados Unidos. I didn't pretend that Americans are God's chosen people (we aren't) and didn't treat local citizens like trash because not all of them could speak English. And man - I had the time of my life! The Mexicans with whom I lived proved to be extraordinarily welcoming, open and friendly to this ol' Gringo. I lived well, ate well, loved one of the sweetest, cutest, most enticing young ladies ever seen anywhere! But you - suckah, would likely be found floating face down in the Rio Grande within days of your arrival in Mexico with your highfalutin' attitude. And y'know what? I could find out exactly who did you in within hours - and I'd never, but NEVER - rat 'em out because you'd have recieved the justice you richly deserve!

If you move to Mexico, you should learn to speak their language. If you don't, you have no business complaining that they should have menu's, instructions, etc. written English.
Now I realize that the Mexicans go out of their way to cater to English speaking people. This is because their main industry is tourism and we Americans are the majority of the tourists.

First Mexican and American are nationalities not languages we speak English and they speak Spanish. 2ND it is because we Americans cater to the Mexicans needs we translate signs and have Spanish speaking employees at almost all of our companies so they don't have to learn.

american isn't a language first of all, second you could go to mexico and not speak spanish (mexican isn't a language either), you'd just have a hard time, like many mexicans do in the states, and considering your lack of intelligence, you'd have a really hard time
