I had a teddy bear named Teddy when I was a little girl. It was short for Theodore. Is that your name? If so, go with Theo. Or Teddy.....what ever floats your boat!

It definitely has its charm to it but its more of a nickname than anything else. You don't want that to be someone's given birthname. In school, this can lead to teasing, name calling, etc. and in today's age, kids can be especially brutal to each other mentally. Use a more formal version of the name and around the house if you like it alot, use it as a nickname. If the child likes it, he'll "adopt" the nickname and prefer that his friends refer to him as that. If its his given name and too many people pick on him over it, he'll grow to resent the name and you don't want that.
For example, my name's Andrew. Everyone in school since 3rd grade called me Drew. It stuck and now I even call myself Drew except where I have to use my given name such as applications and forms.
Otherwise, might I suggest to you the name Toby? It's a good name with a religious meaning behind it. If I have a son in the future, I plan on naming him Toby. Still cute but more masculine.
