"I am so sorry for your loss. If you need to talk, or if there's anything I can do, please let me know."

Actions count more than words, though. Can you feed her cats, or bring over food, or help her out in any way? She's probably not too focused on "life stuff" right now, so she probably needs lots of support!

Sometimes there is nothing you can say except letting them know how sorry you are and reminding them if there is anything they need to just ask.

When we try to say things the sometimes don't come out the way we want them too or are taken wrong because of the circumstances. Just be there for your friend ... its really that simple.

Just tell her how sorry you for her lose and that you have her back if she needs to talk or just a shoulder to cry on. Tell her thats your job as a friend. Sometimes actions are better then words

One of the best things you can tell them is that you're there to listen. There really is nothing you can say in a time like that.

Say this:

"I'm sorry your grandfather died, but keep on living life to the max."

That should work.

Remember all the good times and years together, and you can write up your ideas of that time.

I agree with bronzebabke. Just remind your friend that you are there for her, and then make sure you are. It's really all you can do.

"at least, he's gone to a better world.. he won't suffer anymore.... be happy for him."

or just sit beside him/her... don't say anything... just let him/her know you're there.... action speaks louder than words...

- hope that helps...
