Alice in the Woods was pretty accurate.
Craft stores have many of the supplies.
Nickle-plated copper wire is usually used, several wires are twisted together leaving 'collections' of wire twisted together and spread out as a 'root' base (I epoxy glue the tree roots to a selected attractive small rock as a base), then as the 'trunk' goes up three or so wires are bent off in different places and twisted together as limbs, sticking out at different heights and angles, shaped as limbs look on regular trees.
I add to the effect by twisting a small loop in the end of each limb, put a drop of epoxy on it, and set a small tumbled colored stone in the loop.
I have all the supplies to still do it, but it was only a hobby and I got into bigger things.

Wire art is simply art made with wire. It is used for jewelry, topiary, sculpture and many other forms. Imagination is the only limit.

I've given links for a few sites with different kinds of wire art.

I'm a bit hooked on it (in addition to a ton of other crafts). I generally use it to make unique jewelry. It isn't as easy as it looks, but it's fun, nonetheless.
