Your hangy ball is called a Uvula. My friend had to have hers taken out when she got her tonsils out too!

Hi,
It's called your uvula. Nobody seems to know what it's purpose is...personally I think it may have been 'designed' to keep us from swollowing something that's too big for our esopaghus can handle-sort of an early warning system.
