It's not that the term can never be used. It's more that the term is linked with racism and oppression. It is considered disrespectful.

If you feel the need to use it, then by all means do. It is a free country, yes. Just be prepared that there might be repercussions after using it. You are an adult, if you make the choice you accept the consequence.

THe word has a long history. It is a complex word. It has importance in our culture because of its position between whites and blacks, probably the largest cultural division in our country. I answered it but i am not angry. But i am further along the path on this subject than most. I am frequently helping people understand the use of this word.

Lets take the word "girl". Professional adult women may take offense to this word when applied to them at work. It has been used to minimize women at work. These very same women may actually use the word "girl" when they are alone with their close friends at a pajama party. Similar to the word you asked about - no one at the pajama party will be offended though they might all be offended if called this at work by male bosses. It has to do with whether you are in the group or not and who is present and the context. Language and offense is complicated.

of coarse white people can't say it, BECAUSE THEIR WHITE!!! but i'm black and i say it all the time, yea it has a long history, but that's HISTORY. it all depend on what kind of black people you say it to, if you say it to an old lady or anybody more than 3 years older than you, its disrespectful, but if you say it to one of your peers who say it just as much as you and know what you mean by it, no problem, there are certain words we'n can't say to white people but its just not as much a deal as the "n" wod. back in the slave days the white's had the upper hand callin us that, but now by saying it to eachother we have taken the power out of the word. but if white people tried to say it again ITS OVER, and no I'm not racist, i'm just stating the facts, its truth
