It is less expensive to leave it on. When you turn it on and off it has to start from scratch each time it cools your house and that uses more energy than just maintaining an even temp. If it gets too cold on you when you leave it on try setting it on a lower setting. My window air conditioner has a thermostat so that you can set it a a specific temp. I keep it on about 72-75 which is comfortable in the day and doesn't freeze me at night. If you have a window unit it's also good to put it in a window that doesn't get direct mid day sun. That way the unit doesn't have to work as hard to produce cool air during the hottest part of the day.

It is less expensive to keep your home at a set temperature rather than turning the AC on every time you need to cool the house down. Set it at a comfortable temp and leave it alone.

I have my AC on a programmable thermosat and setting the AC to higher temps when no one is in the house does save money. But, it is dependent on how long you you turn off the AC. If you are leaving for several hours, or at night when you are sleeping, then there is a cost benefit. But if you are turning it off or setting to a higher temp for less than 2 hours, you are better leaving it on.
Get a programmable thermosat, they are cheap and easy to install.

i've got study a pair of surveys on that venture and the outcomes have been you may get better mileage with a/c off utilising around city even nonetheless it did not rather say how lots. With the fee of gas that's recommended to top off and write mileage down and run a week or so with a/c off and do comparable with a/c on and evaluate mpg. The survey did coach there wasn't lots differance at highway speeds because of the fact the residing house windows down interfered with the areodynamics of the motor vehicle.

my mom did that last summer and it saved her alot. the reson is when it gets real hot in your house, you ac has to work overtime to cool it down quicker. when you leave it on, it just switches on every now and then to maintain the temperature...

Leave it on. That way it doesn't have to keep working to cool down when you keep turning it back on. Also use ceiling fans.

Oh cheaper! Call your electric company. It depends on how they are billing you. Some have cheaper rates if you use continuous power, and more expensive startup rates.
