In terms of what they accomplish, not much. One way to distinguish would be the extent, a check is more cursory whereas an inspection is more indepth. Another way to distinguish is by what is checked/inspected - an essay would be checked for spelling errors, a building would be inspected for fire code violations.

Technically. they're the same, but inspection implies a more thorough check. For example, if you "check" to see if a building looks OK, you might just poke around a little. If you inspect it, you're probably going to go over every nook and cranny to make sure.
