Shaving:
1. Rinse face with hot water. This will help keep the germ count low and soften the hairs at the same time.
2. Use one of the gel shaving creams like Edge or whatever. You don't have to use a lot but let it sit for a few moments before starting.
3. Use a single-blade razor. Bic makes a disposable version. Rinse it well under the hot water before use. You might want to store it in an alcohol bath like the barbers do with their combs and stuff if you're really germaphobic. Change to a new one whenever it seems to pull more than cut.
4. Shave with the lay of the whiskers, not against them, especially on the neck and around the mouth. You can do a diagonal cut for a closer shave in some places if you need to.
5. Rinse well. I shave before I shower because the shower helps clear the shaving residue and eases the burn with the moisture and heat.

Wash your face with a good moisturising soap. It opens the pores and ensure the hairs stick out.

Once shaved, use an after shave balm, such as nivea.

Though I should talk. I've had a beard for the last 12 years.

Moisturise, it's the main problem with shaving. When you shave, you remove the top layer of cells, which contain the protective oil layers. Your skin will be open to the elements, hence the rash.
