I have OCD and a sleep disorder, so having a schedule is important. I never seem to keep to it, but I don't have it written out. I'm thinking I'll write out a full schedule (with some free time scheduled in too, I don't want to be a robot... but I do want better health and more regular sleep!) Suggestions? Anyone having similar troubles?

i never had a good daily routine until i found a job that i could form a routine with.
my previous positions were retail management and Human Resources for a carrier company, so, those jobs required, basically, 24 hours availability. there was no room for a routine.

so, for me the first step was finding a job that is m-f 8-5...i love having this daily job!
i'm on my best routine when my husband is on deployment, actually. he is a Marine, so when he's away i run the household like a fine tuned machine.
when he gets back it turns back into a semi-state of chaos.

so, my routine is as follows:
6:15am-get up and let dog outside, feed him, eat a bowl of cereal and drink a glass of OJ with my prenatal vitamins.
6:35am-let dog out to do #2 and clean it up. I take a shower
6:55am-get dressed and do mirror time
7:15am-walk dog and make sure he does 2nd #2 of day (yeah, i know...i even have my puppy's potty on a routine:)
7:35am-fill water bottles, fill bottle with chocolate milk, get baggie of fig newtons...for work.
7:40am-put doggie in his room and leave for work.
8:00am-start work

--while i'm at work i even have a bit of a routine, but i won't get too much into it other than, at 10am i eat my fig newtons and i usually have at least 32oz of my water drank by noon.

i go to lunch anywhere from 12:30-1:00. i go home and let the dog out to potty and fix a sandwich and some applesauce...my lunch is usually pretty flexible.

at 5 pm i leave work and get home around 5:15-5:30, depends if i stop at the store or not.
i let the dog out and basically, i let my evening guide itself.
i always feed the dog when i get home and then after i eat dinner i take him for a long walk. then, i will tidy up the house and maybe watch a little TV or read a book or some of my parenting magazines:)

when my husband is around my evening routine is shot. my day time is fine, but my evenings get softball games tossed in, our kitchen hasn't been tidied up in about 2 days (that's killing me by the way:), i never get to bed at a normal time.
when he's away it was about 9pm...now, it's more like 10 or 11....yuck!

BUT, i will say that i like that he mixes things up for me a bit. i enjoy the comfort of my routine, but i also enjoy hopping in the car and driving to beach or spending a day lounging at the pool:)
he also motivates me to do more projects around the house.
plus, it's just plaing nice to have your spouse around. i laugh more with him around and i know my pup likes it more b/c not only does he have mommy, who takes care of everything, but he has daddy, who plays and is probably more fun.

well, there you have it! my routine.

i don't have it written out b/c it's based on what needs to get done based around my big thing....work.

so, good luck with your routine!

exercise early in the morning will guarantee you a good night sleep. I get up at 6am and ride for 90 minutes. I work from home and the temptation to take a nap is tough, but I don't. I sleep great at night. A med for OCD helped me, I have a much calmer mind now, not racing all the time.

I have five different diagnoses, and starting treatment with a schedule changed my life. Eventually, you get in a zone that's comfortable to you. It's not easy, but putting things on paper in the beginning is like a safety net for a lot of people. It worked for me.

Best wishes!

For good sleep, go to bed at the same time each night. Have your last meal of the day 2-3 hours before going to bed. Don't exercise right before bed. Hope this helps.
