Planning, organising, directing and controlling are the basic management functions. In these days coaching and counselling are more important in the role of a manager, too.

Your question appears to be, "What are the functions of Management?" This is a very broad field.
In a large corporation, this includes the Board of Directors, the President, Vice President, (there may be several, in charge of different operations), on down to a single Department Manager.
If you were to be hired in a starting position, you would probably be under the supervision of that department manager, and/or his/her assistant manager. At that level the assistant would answer to the manager. Both, starting with the assistant, would be responsible for training, sometimes hiring, you and all other employees in that department. Their duties would include assigning your duties and supervising your performance as well as maintaining discipline assuring that you are on time, that you do not waste time, (such as being on this board whlie on duty),
supervising schedules, and evaluating you, and reporting to the manager and in turn on up the ladder. In sales, they would have some responsibility to maintain profits, control the appearance of the department, and minimize waste as well as improve customer relations, inventory control, among other duties.
It carries a responsibility from the bottom to the top.
