Allow for 3m, 3.5m if you have lots of pockets. Thats based on a medium width leg, 30" inside leg, medium size. Allow spare if its a big pattern as you need to match it up, so you could need 4m.

Yes, it depnds on the size of trousers you want to make and the style. 140 cm is quite a good width - I would think 1.5 to 2 metres max. Does the pattern not say?
