The referee awarded a penalty to Italay in a pre-quarterfinal game against Australia in the dying moment of the game.I consider the Australians unlucky and the decision a biased one

I don't like either team for the record, this is purely objective:

It was not a penalty kick, there is no way. The Aussie was down well before he was tripped over. It was a very harsh decision in the 93rd minute. It should have had to be BLATANT in order to cause a penalty kick that late in the match. Football is about fairplay (kickouts on injuries etc.) and to see a game decided like that was sad. The ref probably regrets that decision, but who knows.

I dont blame the referee. The same misery happened to Italy last time when the referee ruled out the deserved penalty. Instead they got one red card. This time also they got red card in the match against Australia for no reason. So Why nobody is caring about their fate so far. Then, if any body is telling that Australia played well. They doesn't deserve the defeat. I'll say u r mistaken, Italians got more shots in the short span of time, they got poccession.
and the game is not in keepin poccession but in how well u do when u hav the poccession. Italy played brilliant defence game. As a new comer Australia made some good show..But still Ghana played much better than them

I don't think it was biased in any way but I do believe the referee was tricked into giving a penalty. The Italian simulated (dived) but the defender O'Neill (?) really should not have done a sliding tackle where he was.

Not a penalty but I can see why the ref gave it.

not the refs fault he is only human, bring on the video footage to help the refs.

Shame the Aussies went out, very good team. Next time around they'll do well

I think it was a bad call, however, that is only because I have the benefit of slow-motion replay. From the angle the referee had on the play and in real-time, it looked like a good call.

who_are_ya got this 100% correct. Let me ask you....was it fair that Australia couldn't score with an extra man on the field. Get over it! Italy was the better team out there and they are moving on, as they should!

Whether it was or not, it doesn't matter now. The call was made, the kick was made and Italy won. It's unfortunate, but that's where it ends. On with the rest of the World Cup.

rule is the rule

once u tackle in penalty area with 2 legs open without manage to get the ball but the player. u will be punished.

for me, it is stupid action by the defender

i did the similar tackle before in field and the player try to avoid and he still fell on the ground.

i m football player and suffered leg injury several times
