The original actress, Jazz Raycole, was pulled out of the show by her mother because her mom disapproved of the storyline about her best friend Raven's character being pregnant.

I'm watching the episode now, and it was written in as a joke. It happened when the actress Tisha Campbell left the show briefly to have a baby. The writers wrote in that Tisha "Jay" Campbell left to take care of her mother healing from a broken ankle. When she was gone and Damon "Michael Kyle" Waynas was in charge, and Raven "Sharmaine" Samone was to guest star. Micheal woke up and wanted to do exercises with the kids early in the morning, and the other 2 kids were exercising,and Claire wasn't downstairs yet. As soon as he was about to yell for her, she storms downstairs with an attitude. So Michael was like, "Are you ok, something looks different about you, I can't place my finger on it." Trying to hold back his laughter, and she replies, "Eew, nothing's different, I just pulled my hair back!" The audience went crazy with laughter. Everyone knew she was different LOL.
But this is the same episode that Raven Simone spent a few nights at their house, but Michael never met her parents. Come to find out, she ran away from home. She takes a pregnancy test at their house, and Michael found it and told her parents. Claire was shocked that he didn't accuse her of the owner of the pregnancy test, and he reminded her that he trusted her.
BTW - this is the lead in, when Tisha "Jay" Campbell comes back and have to loose her baby weight. They made it seem that while she was away, she cooked so much and gained weight at her mom's house. They actually showed a flash back with her actually pregnant in this episode. Trust me a lot happened in that season premiere episode that the new Claire starred in.

because she was fugly! j/k but really
I heard it was because she didnt fit that part well enough...the clair now fits the character to a tee. they also wanted an older person to play that part because her character got older.
