I'm not trying to be rude about catholicism, but you've got to admit it does look more like an OCD tick than any sort of devotional act.

PS wife and I discussing after last game - she's a shrink. She reckons that ALL superstitious acts are actually OCD symptoms.

Sometimes it is a religious thing, a Christian devoting what they do to God and praying that He will be with them during the match. Sometimes it's a superstition, a lot of sports people have them, as well as performers. I suppose a superstition is a mild form of OCD, as you think that if you don't do something then something bad will happen. I suppose it depends on how seriously you take it, sometimes people who do it as a superstition deep down don't believe it whereas obsessive compulsives genuinely believe it.

I feel sorry for you, aptly named man. You confuse faith with superstition. Be a little more respectful, and think seriously whether your ill-informed skepticism is a valid attitude to carry through life. There is more to it than crass materialism

Oh, and please ask your wife (a shrink, you say) what kind of disorder led her to get married to a self-named "bore" as you. Could it be a case of acute masochistic tendencies?

Martial arts practitioners bow before entering the mat, a sort of sacred space, so it seems reasonable to me.
