Closest Gulf Beach To Orlando

Cocoa Beach is just south of Cape Canaveral and the Kennedy Space Center on the Atlantic Coast... I went two years ago, and it was great, the sand and the water... If your going this weekend, maybe you'll get to see a shuttle launch. However, I'm not sure if there are any public beaches available... there are a lot of hotels that have certain areas of the beach reserved for their residents. Have fun in Florida!

The closest beach to Orlando is Coco Beach (Atlantic Side), located near Kennedy Space Center. This beach has good sized waves, showers, lifegaurds and restrooms.... even an arcade and restaurants on the beach. It is about a 45 minute drive along the I-4 and then you take the beachline expressway (you go past the airport) out to the beach, just follow the sings to Cape Canaveral.

On the gulf side is a GORGEOUS tropical beach, located 2 hours from Orlando, but well worth the drive. It is Siesta Key Beach in Sarasota. You take the I-4 south toward Tampa and follow signs to Sarasota. This beach is GREAT for families. The waves here aren't too large, the water is crystal clear blue and the beach is known for its pure white, baby powder like sand. Siesta Key Beach has a cabana pavillion area where they play calypso drum music, have fans running, and offer all kinds of food and beverages. They have bathrooms, lifegaurds and showers. Siesta Key was listed as the Travel Channel's #2 Florida Beach.

As for seafood stops.... you have quite a few to choose from! There are a few places near both beaches I mentioned. But you have seafood choices at Disney World too! Norway's Buffet at EPCOT has great seafood. Japan at EPCOT has terrific sushi. One of my favorite local chains is Bahama Breeze. We don't have them out here in Utah, and they have great seafood! There is one located off the I-4 at exit 68, just across the interstate from Downtown Disney.

Disney's Vero Beach resort is on the beach(apparently) and is located approximately 2 hours away from Disney World by car.
It looks super fun.

Go to the Gulf! It is too crowded on the Atlantic side and not very kid friendly.
