Obesity is a condition in which the natural energy reserve, stored in the fatty tissue of humans and mammals is increased to a point where it is thought to be a significant risk factor in certain health conditions, leading to increased mortality. Obesity is a condition that develops from the interaction of individual biology and the environment.
Body mass index (BMI) is currently the most widely accepted calculation of excess body fat for human beings.
A BMI less than 18.5 is underweight
A BMI of 18.5 - 24.9 is normal weight
A BMI of 25.0 - 29.9 is overweight
A BMI of 30.0 - 39.9 is obese
A BMI of 40.0 or higher is severely (or morbidly) obese

Obesity is an excess proportion of total body fat. A person is considered obese when his or her weight is 20% or more above normal weight. The most common measure of obesity is the body mass index or BMI. A person is considered overweight if his or her BMI is between 25 and 29.9; a person is considered obese if his or her BMI is over 30.
"Morbid obesity" means that a person is either 50%-100% over normal weight, more than 100 pounds over normal weight, has a BMI of 40 or higher, or is sufficiently overweight to severely interfere with health or normal function.

Obesity is a condition that develops from the interaction of individual biology and the environment. Excessive body weight has been shown to correlate with various important diseases, particularly cardiovascular disease, diabetes mellitus type 2, sleep apnea, stroke, and osteoarthritis[1]. Obesity is both an individual clinical condition and, recently, a serious public health problem.

Obesity is defined as a BMI of 30.0 or greater (consistent with criteria of the World Health Organization), or about 30 pounds or more overweight. Extreme obesity is defined as a BMI of 40 or greater. Morbid obesity is being over 100 lbs overweight.

Obesity is an epidemic in the united states and it is getting worse every day. I have had to deal with it. I had a procedure called a lap band. and so far it has worked. some people are obese due to clinical reason, such as thyroid disease. and now it has been linked to a genetic factor. it also has to do with poor eating habit's. but that can change. if you want to live healthy the choice is yours.
