Well this would definetely depend on the position of a player. If you are talking about a right or left back that also is in every attack and if his team is playing up and down the whole time, he could make runs of upto 80 meters up and down no less then 10 times a game. and his other runs to the side and to the midfield etc. We are probably looking at about 3-6 kms.

Im sure i saw a program on tv about this about 18 months ago which focused on Roy Keane. Aparantly he covered up to 5 miles in running during 90 minutes

Technical the better you are the less you run
i.e no chasing back when losing the ball, Not wasting effort by running into wrong areas

some players games are based on work effort(being everywhere)

they clocked beckham a few years ago and he did something like 8km but he does cover alot of ground compared to most players
