because in the day, everybodies usually up and things are so noisy that you are less likely to notice single bump-style noises. At night everyone is usually in bed and things quiet and calm down so any single bump-style noises are likely to get noticed more.

It depends on what you mean. I'm going to assume that you mean why do things bump into things in the night. Well, during the night, things are the part of the Earth facing away from our nearest star, the Sun. Now, of course, the other stars are just too far away to give us much light, so there's not much light, so we can't see things. During the day, our nearest star is up, and it lights up our world and voila, we can see things!

during the day the background noise cuts out the bumps and so you don't hear them, also old house settle during the night due to the heat leaving the house and you can hear the stairs contract, going bump

During the day there is more noise around the house. At night when everything is quiet you can concentrate on little sounds that are in the background like expanding air vents etc.

I interviewed for that job and here is what I found out.

It is strictly grave yard shift work because no one is home during the day so there is no point in bumping during the day.

They do go bump in the day but you can see what they are and therefore aren't so terrifying as the unidentifyable noises one can hear in the night-time!

Things go bump all the time but at night we hear them because of the quiteness.Its simple really.The earth is continually moving and will not be ready for giving up just yet....

cuz we are more vunerable at night... so we get scared of things that wouldnt bother us during the day... also the creatures that create the bumps in the night dont like the day time lol
