Spa days are good but for special birthdays I like getting gifts that the person can keep forever, like a pendant or extra special earrings, or a bracelet.
I like the basket idea, with all her fave things in but maybe you could add a framed picture of the both of you.
just don't make any comments about, Oh next big birthday is 40, or it's all down hill from here on, or anything else age related, unless it's Wow you're only 30!

It was my sister's 30th earlier this year and I got her a silver bracelet because it's a milestone birthday and that's a bit more of a special present.
You could get her something like a voucher for a beauty salon or health spa, or if she's not into that, something like a hot air balloon ride, karting etc.
Something that she might like is something a bit retro. A space hopper or some sweets that she loved as a kid, that kind of thing.

i did this for my sisters 40th but it can be used at any age.
i brought a basket, then put some of the shiny cut up paper in it then brought her minis of all her fav things, like a small bottle of red wine, a small tub of ice cream, small bag of jelly babies
you get the idea then spinkled it with 40th numbers and wrapped it in plastic and put a bow on it
