2002 was great -- Turkey and South Korea made it to semis, Senegal kicked France's a**, and Argentina got knocked off. But this time, it seems to be going back to the same old boring pattern.
And most fans seem to be OK with this!
Which is why I'm cheering for Portugal.

i cant stand brazil. theyre selfish and when the play...even if other teams are playing way better than they are (ghana *cough cough*) they still manage to win!

We are down to some "old favourites" Germany, Italy, Argentina, France, England, Brazil even Portugal. The odd duck in there is the Ukraine, who I do not see winning against Italy... But lots of these old favourites have not done great in past World Cups, they are no longer the dominant teams of old.. Personally I think its nice to see the boys back in top form. After the Euro's I see Portugal as part of the so called "same old boring pattern" you mentioned.
Honestly I hope someone...anyone... don't care who really... knocks Brazil out... A another nice France upset would suit me just fine.
I have been and always cheer for Germany but often have a secondary team or two. This year I want to see Italy get into the medal rounds,its been a while for them.

experience in the end will trump the "good stories" of the Cup..teams with experience are going to shine in the end...DON'T worry though...England and Argentina are going home....Ukraine CAN send Italy home...Brasil could get knocked..but the thing is..THEY HAVE BEEN WAITING TO KICK FRANCE'S LITTLE FRENCH BUTT SINCE 1998...SO THEY WANT IT MORE THAN FRANCE DOES..THEY'LL GET THE GOALS THEY GAVE UP IN 98 AND THEN SCORE A FEW MORE..

i hear ya i myself thought i was the only one tired of seeing Brazil, France , Germany hell why don't they just give them the cup instead of having them play for it. It somehow also seems that these teams always make it because of the repeatedly bad calls of the refrees. I am supporting portugal too since everyone is calling them the underdogs. ( i support Germany too but shhhhhhhhhhhhh )
