Interesting question for which there is no perfect answer.

We tend to see cheetahs and peregrine falcons as fast movers, but spare a thought for our insect friends - who are more advanced physically than most mammals or birds!!

The click beetle can cover 2000 times it's body length in a second, whereas the fastest peregrine and cheetahs can do about 300 and 10 respectively!! Now just imagine if that beetle was big enough, it could do around the world in a few minutes probably!

But, comparing all animals to our human metrics of miles per hour or kilometers per hour - the regulars like Cheetah and the Falcon are very fast in covering the distance in a sustained effort. But I would still say some insects are the fastest animals in the world! :)

Well, I decided to put a real answer here. But really, you have some good ones as it is. The cheetah is the fastest on land and the peregrine falcon the fastest in the air.

I don't think the marine answer above is correct, however, at least not from what I found. I found a 3-way tie between the Shortfin Mako, Black Marlin, and other Marlin and Sailfish... approximately 64 km/hr or 40 m.p.h.
