Picking one song is so hard!!Album: I love Real Illusions: Reflections , I can listen to it over and over and over!!
Steve was in White Snake, and also played with David Lee Roth. But he was with Frank Zappa first.
If you ever get the chance to see him perform live do it!!!! It will be something you will always remember!! He is awesome!!

"Fire Garden". This album is more song oriented and musically diverse than any album he's ever done. (Only "Sex And Religion" comes close.) It's not just a showcase for his amazing, though, often excessive guitar work - but a collection of well-written songs (my favorite being "The Crying Game") that are enhanced by his playing. Not overwhelmed by it!
And he sings on this album, too! He has a very warm and natural vocal style that I find more appealing than the over-the-top style of Devin Townsend.
Although, I'm not a huge Vai fan - I prefer "Satch", myself - I think this album is a must-have for anyone who's a fan of the genre.

And.....

David Lee Roth.
Although, he did play with "Whitesnake", I believe it was during the 90's.

Wow! I forgot Vai was with Zappa in the early 80's.
If you want to hear some excellent "live" guitar interplay between Zappa and Vai, ckeck-out Zappa's '82 release "Ship Arriving Too Late To Save A Drowning Witch" - if you haven't already.
