Usually it is difficult to cenfess after the rumour is out ! most people would rather deny it. But it depends on the relationship of the couple.
If they were already going out and both had guessed each others' feelings, then the rumour actually helps in quickly binding the relationship.
On the other hand, if one of the partner was not interested and the counterpart was trying to convice him/her by trying something else, then the rumour has the potential to kill the relationship.

Probably not, rumors are not something that worries me. If I like a girl she will know it, rumor or no.

I would let it be...
...if she was a hottie and I really, truly, liked her, I'd be relieved that she now has some knowledge that I exist.
...if she's not attractive to me in the slightest, at least she would believe that somebody liked her.
