My mom and dad were married 55 years when my mom died of cancer. I knew the first Christmas without her was going to be rough. I hired a portrait artist to make a watercolor portrait of my mother from a picture taken at their 50th wedding anniversary for my dad's Christmas gift. The artist did a fantastic job. Dad won't part with that portrait for anything...and she sits on the wall in the middle of the living room to this day. It was worth it.
