if you are asking about present war reason then its about kidnapping of an Israeli soldier, and to free his soldier Israel has attacked in Gaza strip.
other wise in general its a long history, to make it short its like this:- Jews people were settled in Arab land by Britishers long back. later on Jews become more power full and Palestinians are wanting back their land which they gave long ago, and obviously Jews are not going to leave that place called Israel.so now its a war for land between those who given(Palestinians) and those who lived on it for such a long time and made it wealthy(Israeli)

The root cause goes all the way back into biblical times. One tribe was chosen to rule over the others ....well something like that.........
