if you don't want to go to Medicine, what's the advantage of having a BS degree?

I suppose you might want a BS if you planed on eventually becoming a psychiatrist. (that's a psychologist that can perscribe medicine) but you do need an MD for that.

Otherwise, there is no advantage, other then maybe sounding more impressive to others that understand that BA is bachelors of arts and BS is a bachelors of science.

You might want to check and see what the clinical psychologist degree is listed under at your university, you may not even get a choice.

Most colleges only offer a BS or a BA -- not both. Most people would consider them to be equivalent.

There are some universities that offer both a BS and a BA in a given field. For example, several schools (including Villanova and University of Pennsylvania) offer a BA in Economics through the economics department in the college of arts (or arts & sciences) and offer a BS in Economics through the business school. The BA is a real economics degree. The BS is really more of a BSBA degree.

The University of Minnesota offers a BS in Mathematics through the Institute of Technology and a BA in Mathematics through the College of Liberal Arts. The mathematics requirements are similar, but BA students must meet the college requirements of CLA, while BS students must take more science classes.

If your school offers both a BS and a BA -- look to see what requirements are different, and choose the one that is the best fit for you.
