ROM is an acronym for Read-Only Memory. It refers to computer memory chips containing permanent or semi-permanent data. Unlike RAM, ROM is non-volatile; even after you turn off your computer, the contents of ROM will remain.

Almost every computer comes with a small amount of ROM containing the boot firmware. This consists of a few kilobytes of code that tell the computer what to do when it starts up, e.g., running hardware diagnostics and loading the operating system into RAM. On a PC, the boot firmware is called the BIOS.

Originally, ROM was actually read-only. To update the programs in ROM, you had to remove and physically replace your ROM chips. Contemporary versions of ROM allow some limited rewriting, so you can usually upgrade firmware such as the BIOS by using installation software. Rewritable ROM chips include PROMs (programmable read-only memory), EPROMs (erasable read-only memory), EEPROMs (electrically erasable programmable read-only memory), and a common variation of EEPROMs called flash memory.

nes emulator- nes stands for nintendo entertainment system.
in order for you to have certain nes games on ur computer u need an emulator witch is the program that reads and runs the games.

The ROM is the game file. They are usually small files that need to be unzipped after DL'ing them. The emulator is what allows your PC, or whatever you are using to run the game file. The emulator in essence turns your PC, for example, into a game console. You can download any number of emulators on line. Try doing a search on nester, or nesterJr. Those two seem to be the best. if that doesn't work, just google NES emulators and you'll get a ton of sites with emulators and reviews.

An emulator is a program that acts as the games console-in your case a nes emulator acts as a Nintendo Entertainment System console and a rom is a file that acts as the game and so you can play your roms on an emulator.

If you don't own the game which you get the rom of, you must delete it after 24 hours or you are commiting copyright crimes.
