If you are running windows, the program may be in the bottom right-hand corner beside the time. If you see any icons there apart from battery, anti-virus or network, they're might be a program running. If not, you could try pressing Ctrl-Alt-Delete to open the task manager, then click on the applications tab to see what programs are running.

To know what programs are running on your PC, step are OS dependant.
I am writing stpes for some commens OS's
In Windows 9x : just press Alt+Ctrl+del and you will see the list of all the processing running on the PC.
In windows NT,XP,2K or above press Alt+ctrl+del then click on task manager. You programs are listed on first tab and processes are listed on second tab.

Press ctrl,Alt and del together and click the Task manager button in the dialog box. Then the task manger will open. In that select the 'Processes' tab. Sort that by the process id and kill the process which ever you suspect as running. Most probably it will be having the highest value.

Some programs might begin when you log into windows. Some do not show up on the ctrl+alt+del method. You can email me at v_crimson_shadow_v@yahoo.com and I'll email you the steps to take to see your startup programs and how to remove them.
