Could be lack of water. Try soaking the pot in a bucket of water for about 20 minutes ensuring that the entire dirt ball is submerged and the air bubbles are gone. Often pots can dry out even when you water them every day as the water does not penitrate the soil properly. You may have to repot the rose using fresh potting mix. But try a wetting agent first as this will change the soil so that the water can penetrate easily.

PS Roses prefer full sun.

If at all possible get the rose out of the pot. Roses are deep root feeders and need room for their roots. Even the small mini roses will do well in gardens or a special spot in the yard. A shrub rose is just what it says it is a shrub. It needs room. If the pot is 6" jump it up to around 10" that will give the plants roots to grow like they should. But ultimately it will even out grow that. Water well, put in the sun and make sure you feed it. Any good 15-30-15 fertilizer will work well. Happy growing.

You don't say what size pot...how long it's been in that pot....what zone you live in...etc. It's hard to fully diagnose the problem with so few facts known.
Did you fertilize it and then let it get dry? Then it's fertilizer burn.
Has it been in the same pot for years? Then it needs to be transplanted in the fall or spring with some new topsoil in the pot, potting soil would dry out too quickly and not overwinter if you live in the northern climate.
If it's a rugosa rose and you sprayed it with an insecticide it burned the leaves...rugosa roses DO NOT like to be sprayed with anything (rugosa roses have the quilted looking leaves...not glossy looking).
Hope you can get your rose happy and healthy again :o)

I learned recently that plants in plastic pots are BAD when the plant pot heats up it kind of cooks the roots. What an awful way to die! I live in the south of spain so the heat here is brutal... maybe the sun where you live is not so hot. Try watering with cool water in the evening. Water on leaves in sunlight has the same effect as a magnifying glass.

Monica-v reported.
As it is in a pot, it could well be just getting too dry, needs to be watered every day, but don't water when the sun will get on the leaves as splashes on the leaves can act like a lens and burn the leaves.

sounds like your rose has been in the pot for along time .every plant in apot needs to be repotted about every six months because the nutrients in the potting mix/soil are used up by that time and the plant will be starving .also it has to be watered almost daily in hot weather and two or three time a week in cooler weather .stand the pot on a brick for good drainage and put it in a semi shaded area, away from southerly and northerly winds.

I think lack of water may be main culprit with pot grown plants. Pots heat up quite a lot if in full sun and it's probably cooking!
