They have to be shocked. For when I go to other countries I see that the people there are by far more content and have better values than us ... imagine that? Being fulfilled and having less? They are especially shocked with our confused priorities.

In all history powerful cultures have been seen negatively.
I have heard people say bad things about Japanese tourists, American tourists, and back in the old days British tourists. In their day the Romans weren't very popular either.
I have also experienced great courtesy from foreign cultures when I have tried to share in their culture and values.
I would never worry about this. If anyone, foreign or American sees me negatively that's a concern to me, if I think it's because of the way I act. As a culture, I don't much worry about it. We have some bad folks and some very good folks and a lot in between. Same as they do.

Not really but the thing to remember is when you visit another country you should be respectful and thumb I'm an American into everyones face, that is why foreigners dislike most Americans..
When I went to visit London I was treated fairly well

If all foreigners hated you, America would NOT be what it is today. The American economy based in foreign countries would be ruin, and ruin America's foundation. Why do you think America worries about their financial institutions? Because we are a capitalist country and if money flow stops, we stop functioning. If the foreigners really hated us, they would suspend our trades with them, they would forced our business out of their countries.. Imagine Coca Cola, and alikes kicked out from every country. They dislike us for our foreign policies, (few of it), but NOT America in general, think.

Nope. Americans can be very arrogant at times. Also, I think that our government has done some things in other countries that we are not aware of. There has to be some reason for the hatred.

Shocked? No. Even us canuks (canadians) aren't huge fans of United States politics and society, generally speaking.

Snuggles -- you are soooo right! Our arrogant, ignorant, and overpaid pundits that pass their anti-American opinions off as news are begging for the rest of the world to hate us.

No, we have always been hated, today is no different. The French for example, hated us soon after they were liberated in WW2. I love their type of hate, you should too.
