American diet! The book FATLAND concludes that it is high fructose corn syrup in everything that is most responsible. The stupid stuff is in everything. It's sweet, keeps things moist, is a preservative and is cheap. A Twinkie has a shelf life of 7 years! Even Diet soda will make you fat before it has this wretched liquid sugar in it. It's the only sugar your liver can't process so it dumps it right into your bloodstream to beef you up.

Second reason is hydrogenated fats. They are fading out of foods, but only slightly. Food companies just figured out how to keep it off the label. It's still there. For instance, many times it will say "No trans fats" or "No hydrogenated fats". But the FDA allows you to say "FAT FREE" or "NO FAT" if it has less than 1/2 mg or less PER SERVING. So food companies just say it has more "Servings". Then, because it says no fat or fat free, you eat more than you usually would, and end up getting the same or more.

Then of course, there are all those stupid diet fads so big on talkshow America...the harder you try to lose weight, the more you spend, the fatter you get, so the more you have to spend. That's the American way.

No carb diet. What a joke. If you don't have carbs you'll die.

No matter what you deprive yourself of, you can't fool Mother Nature. As long as you don't eat nutritious food your body needs, your survival instinct will keep eating everything it can get down your throat till it gets the right nutrient.

Unfortunately, by the time it gets real food to feed your cells, you are so fat there's a hole in the bathroom where the scale used to be, and when you take a walk at night, you create an eclipse of the moon.

So many denials here. It's a fact, and was just on 60 minutes and 20/20 in the last few weeks. 70 percent of ALL Americans are overweight. Men, women and children. Many health problems are now major due to the fat people. Diabetics for one.

I recently read an article in JAMA (medical journal) that indicated 49% of American women are overweight or obese, while just over 70% of the men are...why? Simple. As Americans we take in too many calories and don't exercise enough (and some mot at all). I am 6 feet tall and weigh 178lbs. But a year ago I weighed 225lbs. So I just reduced how much I ate and exercised 5 days a week.

With every day pass, our country is getting into more and more trouble. The inflation, unemployment and falling value of dollar are the main concern for our Government but authorities are just sleeping, they don’t want to face the fact. Media is also involve in it, they are force to stop showing the real economic situation to the people. I start getting more concern about my future as well as my family after watching the response of our Government for the people that affected by hurricane Katrina.

According to recent studies made by World Bank, the coming crisis will be far worse than initially predicted. So if you're already preparing for the crisis (or haven't started yet) make sure you watch this video at http://www.familysurvival.tv and discover the 4 BIG issues you'll have to deal with when the crisis hits, and how to solve them fast (before the disaster strikes your town!) without spending $1,000s on overrated items and useless survival books.

I am not American and I am not fat but I still think it is NOT good to generalize. There are so many American women out there and I can sure tell you that not most of them are fat. :)

I think it has a lot to do with lack of exercise, women in Europe go everywhere walking, or with the bycicle, they try to take the kids out walking, and eat what they want, but they measure their intake.. I am actually trying to adapt to their culture, and I truly admire them.. my husband's grandmother is around 70, and she has so much energy, I have a hard time keeping up.. Basically here, excercise is incorporated in everyday life, they have attachments for their bycicle for their children, for groceries, everything, and we tend to go everywhere with the car, if we don't have time to go to the gym (drive to the gym), then we gain weight.. and junk food doesn't help.. our culture plays a big part in it.. everywhere there are elevators, and stairs are almost hidden away..

American women become fat on purpose, so as to ensure their husbands are adequately turned off of intercourse. Many American men have bizarre sexual fetishes, so it can be assumed that for every fat American lady you see, there is at least one perverted sexual deviant.

Woman, have you looked at them men lately they don't look much better. Americans are number one in obesity. It's our life style. Eating to much junk and not getting exercise. Americans have become lazy. We sit on our rumps and stuff our faces. Instead of taking the stairs wheres the elevator. Look at the gadgets they come out with. A stupid thing that sweeps your floors while we sit on our rumps and stuff our faces. Lets face it the technology of today is making us lazy.
