Best excuse had to be my son's! While he worked for Sky TV! He phoned up at 7AM telling them he was going to be late, his girlfriend as well because there was an armed siege in the street, Polive everywhere, no one allowed to leave the house! He took a roasting from Personel sho told him they would speak to him as soon as he got there, reminded him he could well get his P45 for making up such an excuse.

He insisted it was true and they hung up. So he called his line manager on his mobile, told him what had happened. Line manager thought it most unlikely but said not to worry! This is Sky TV any such thing really happening! They'd know!

By the time my son and girlfriend arrived at work, it was well after lunch time and they got in to a roaring welcome! Everyone clapped and they were both asked what had really happened, did they see anything etc. Because it was the truth!!! And they had inside witnesses!!! Some junky across the road had taken his brother hostage, locked himself in the house and it had taken 1/2 the night and most of the morning for Police negotiators to get him out!!! Including his brother, dog and goodness knows how many swords, guns etc,

In my books that makes it the best excuse because it was true!

In Austria everyone skives off with "Darmgrippe", which is basically sickness and diarrhoea. Nobody can prove you didn't have it and you need at least 2 days off with it!!
