Critique, preferably by a professional.

A college professor, an editor who takes the time to send a personalized rejection letter (much better than it sounds, really), or a gifted friend who's farther along than you. But the further you get from a professional, or a true artist, the less meaningful the critique is. If a doting girlfriend says, "It's soooooo great!" that just doesn't carry the weight of an English professor saying, "You have a real talent you ought to develop."

To some extent you'll know from the hunger to write. If you hunger to write, and you do it all the time, your writing will improve just as any craft will improve when you work on it. How much it will improve and how far you can go with it, well, that depends on the gift... see above paragraph. ;)

You can tell, after a great deal of reading the works of others, how well yours stands up, too. Not objectively, but you may be able to have some idea as you become more familiar with the works of great authors.

You don't. If you're great at something, like writing, you don't stop and question if you're any good. You're too busy producing great things. Also, part of being a writer requires you to be creative. It's a natural thing. So, there are not really any creative writers, just good ones or bad ones.

I think you either have to pursue writing on your own and see where it gets you or you have to be recognized. At age 11 my elementary school teacher encouraged my to write because she felt that I had some "talent". I wrote all the school plays and even took a short story I had written and extended it to novel length. She sent it to a publisher for me but unfortunately the only local publisher does non-fictional work. I gave up writing for lack of interest and I think my skills have suffered because of it. If you think you are good, keep doing it. You never know who might read your work!

Once you have several individuals read your writing, and you receive constructive criticism, you know you are a gifted writer. There are several subjects out here that you can write about, so do a survey. If you are writing about mythology~ find two people who enjoy reading about mythology, and two who don't. If the two people who do not read mythology thinks that your writing is very informing and actually enjoyable, you have success!

If you absolutely LOVE writing and can't get enough of it and don't mind writing for free -- then keep at it and eventually you'll get there. It's all about intention. Set your mind to being a great writer and your brilliant mind will do back flips to get you where you need to be! This was my approach to singing and music. I started out seriously horrible, and now I sing jazz, professionally, with great musicians backing me up. If you love it just keep doing it!! It'll be worth the effort, trust me! :-)

to Wai: well, considering he/she is using "creative" as part of the phrase "creative writer" in this instance, i don't really think it applies.

as for your question, i think it's hard to know exactly. i suggest trying to get as much feedback from different sources as you can, and to develop your own idea about what a "good" writer is.

it all depends, if you write something and it touches not only you but your veiwers (readers), when your literature is so understandable and appeals to everyone. that it makes people, love your work and get anxios for the sequel. but you dont have to be crative or a gifted literate to write all you want and can, it also takes experence, and time. some of the best writes had down falls with some of their work...

You don't know. it comes from within. Everyone has his/her goal in life. persue that goal and trust your instinct in whatever field it may be. if you think that you have the ability to be an able writer, then you will one day surely be one of the best among them. Remember, to do something correctly is one thing and success is something else.

write something and give a copy of it to someone you don't know very well (so they can be honest about their opinion because they won't worry about hurting our feelings and so it wn't matter as much IF they think it's bad.) tehn ask them what they think, or join a creative writing class, or an online group and post something.

Apparently, you're not. You used two adjectives on a single noun without cohesion.

"gifted creative"
