Why do people have to belong to either Democrats or Republican or label themselves asLiberal or Conservative? Why can’t they just listen to each person and go with who they agree with most? Is it that important to be apart of a particular group?

You got it sister. I'm a conservative independent. I vote for who, IMO, will do the better job as a conservative, regardless what party they are affiliated with. Of course the only conservative democrats I know are here in my state like state senators and such, and i have no problem voting for them.

The reason most people call themselves Liberal or Conservative is because these are two very different world views, with many defining differences between them. Conservatives believe in smaller decentralized governments, Liberals believe in larger more centralized power structure. Conservatives believe that traditional religious based morality is an essential part of any workable social system, Liberals believe in lessening religious influence in government and society. Conservatives believe the giving the private sector greater freedom to operate produces more economic prosperity, Liberals tend to believe that significantly large scale government regulation of the economy works best. The Republicans usually, though not always tend to be the Conservative party. The current administration is an excellent example of an exception to that trend though. The Democrats tend to be the Liberal party although the most recent Democratic President, Bill Clinton was an exception toi that rule, as he was the most conservative Democratic President since Grover Cleveland in the 19th Century. Most of the Democratic candidates for President have been Liberals in recent years, and many Republican candidates in recent years have been Conservatives. The two Bushes have been the most prominent exceptions to that rule however.

I agree with you to a certain extent.

The problem is the voters themselves, lets see if i can make my case.

Why is party identification even nessary, because most people do not research each and every canidate that they are asked to vote for.

For example, have you ever voted for a judge, legally thier party identification is not displayed as it is their job to be objective.
however if you vote without knowing anything about a judge it is assumed they will be objective however we only have to look at the supreme court to show us that this is far from the case. Not knowing anything is worse than generalizing under party identification.

So if the voters haven't researched every canidate on a ballot, should they vote at all?

Many don't vote to begin with is this healthy or even a reallistic democracy?

Party indification is a nessarcy evil because voters do not research as they should the canidates or issues, there are exceptions but out of billions of potenital voters its infinticimal.....

The solution, or a realsitic soultuion is real third parties...
even then, if either Democart or Republican split into more diverse and specific parties it will hurt thier overall goals..and empower the other side for lack of a majority..

Ex. Perot for Bush, Rossesvelt for Taft, Nater for Gore.....
thank you.

Sux doesn't it?

Most countries have more than 2 party system but the US has to cling to an obsolete artificial 2 party system.

Being in one of those is not saying much. Even Russia had a 2 party system before the big change. You either were part of the party...or not. 2 Party system as good as the US's.

I don't think of myself as belonging to any group of politics at all, though I have to choose one or another to vote, and I end up having limited choices to those in that group, which is like an incomplete and unsatisfactory amount of choices to choose from, and end up getting too frustrated to find anything that is worth giving a vote for.

Stupid question.Politics is about power and influencing certain groups to vote en masse! Some independent groups or people just don't vote. A group has more power.A person alone is like 1 person shouting in a desert.
