I'm just answering this question to back up the first two answers, which were both correct (unlike the other answers which were WRONG.)

"Goya" simply means "of the nations", that you are not Jewish.
It is not at all derogatory.

Every group of people needs some word to describe people other than them. This does not make the word derogatory.

For example, a Jewish boy might inform his parents about his new non-Jewish girlfriend, by saying "I have a new girlfriend. She's a goya, and so we're going to a Kwanza celebration tomorrow night. Want to join us?"

We had a kid in our school (high school) who was saying it. He would always say "You're a such a jew, man". One teacher finally got really fed up with it and made him write a five page report on the Holocaust. He still said it afterwards, but never around teachers. It really shouldn't be used as an insult, it's really saddening to hear.

It would be amusing, some of these answers if it weren't sad. How people answer from ignorance. By the way, of course, the post about the Spanish painter, though interesting, is far from the truth. "Goy," is a hebrew word, and does not come from Spanish at all. It simply means, "gentile." A Goy is a non-jew. The people who made posts saying it is derogatory are incredibly wrong. It is neither an insult, nor a compliment. (To be continued...)

Just the opposite; it's a rare compliment.

Goya is known as the "Father of Modern Art." He is much admired by Jews because he was born and lived in Spain, 1746-1828, which was one of the first countries to establish religious tolerance.

At age 46, he became deaf from an illness, yet he kept on painting, mostly portraits of aristocrats. When a count or countess asked him a question, he would simply respond, "Oi?" European Jews adopted the word and incorporated it into the Yiddish language, a combination of German and Hebrew.

Goya's most famous paintings, which hang in the Louvre in Paris, are "The Naked Maja" and "The Clothed Maja." They point of the two paintings is that we are WHO we are, not who we APPEAR to be.

They are not the real Jews or better say Hebrews of the Bible except for the Bible they have dangerous books that say terrible things about how to treat other people not of their race. This doesn't mean that all of them are bad people.Hebrews were black people. They ran to Africa When the land was taken by the Romans year 70 AD, and later on were made slaves (african descent blacks taken to America) in the Americas or killed and conquered (The American Indians) Book of Esdras an Apocriphal book Ch 13 or maybe 8. The tribes were divided in to two groups according to second book of Chronicas Ch 17 if i'm not wrong After the assyrians took them captive and by God's command assyrians let them go, one group represented by Ephraim followed by the other names tribes mention in Genesis, Ephraim is Joseph's son of the Bible went to live in America and the other tribes stayed in Jerusalem (tribe of Judah and Benjamin and Levi) now they are in America from North to South and the Islands. Yeah, I'm catholic and I will call everyone else Gzyutyiyua, because that's how we call non-catholics. Come on people :)

goy is an animal - that's how they call other people. They don't respect any non-jewish people. If you couldn't find it use Bing - google is also a jewish search engine and it censore stuff like that.

No, it just means you are Not Jewish.

Unless it was said in a mean way, like, "I can't believe our wonderful Jewish son is dating a Goya like you!"
