Niacin is a B-complex vitamin (B3). Although most people are not niacin deficient studies have shown that increased doses may in fact slow the progression of Diabetes I and help regulate the blood sugar in your body. Not all diabetes is inherited (although it can be). Diet and life style are important factors in preventing this disease. An example is the high incidence of diabetes among Hispanics. Lots of starch in there diet may be the reason. I am not a medical professional so asking a doctor with knowledge of vitamin therapy is a must for you.
