A few nights ago I experienced shooting pains in the area where my uterus would be. They kind of came in waves and were pretty strong. I have never experienced this before and it hasn't happened since. And no I'm not pregnant! I'm on the pill.

Probably bowel gas. If the pain persists and gets worse, you may be having a tubal pregnancy, though the chances of this are very unlikely. The other possibility is uterine fibroids or ovarian cysts. A young woman should not be having these problems. If you are under 25, don't worry about those things so much.
However, if the pain persists and you begin to have irregular periods or particularly painful periods, you could be experiencing endometriosis, which can be a chronic and serious disease.
My bet is that you were moving gas and it is nothing at all to worry about.

Sounds like you may have an infection. When I had an IUD a few years back, it gave me horrible uterine infections, which cause really bad shooting pains in that area. I know you dont have an IUD, b/c you said you are on the pill, but it can still be an infection from something else. Oh, and just so you know,. you can still get preggers on the pill....I did twice. Anyway, see your dcotor about these pains, b/c if it is an infection, you will need antibiotics, and they will lessen the effects of the bc pills, so be careful! =)

It could be that you have an inflammation of the uterus. You should probably consult a doctor if the pain worsens or does not get any better. Ibuprofen may help relieve the pain for a little while.

Not sure what happened in your case, but just a couple of things that are common - some women experience pain or sensations during ovulation, could be bladder pain or just simple abdominal muscle pain.

Period pains? Perhaps you'd been sitting awkwardly and they were cramps like you'd get in other parts of the body? Personally, I wouldn't be worried, but if they continue and happen more frequently, it might be worth seeing a doctor.

Go to your gyno. You do not want to have ovarian cysts bursting.
