Most people have beliefs a belief is basically anything that rings true to YOU but cannot be prooven. Like for instance in the question of God some believe that there is a God working in our lives even today while others believe that said deity doesn't exsist. Neither belief is anymore valid then the other neither can be prooven so why believe at all? Would it be a smarter approch to look at the data from a complete agnostic point of view and allow the data presented on either side of the argument lead you into a probable conclusion?
Does strong unshakable belief not lead to extremism? Is that not unhealthy?

Nikki: There is nothing special about it it simply allows you to look at any given idea in abstract and tackle it from both ends. I find that the real answer the PROBABLE answer lies somewhere in the middle of the two extremist POV's

G-Bear I like your thoughts I am a fan of Jung as well.
Knowledge through expirience whether it be esoteric or otherwise must be taken with an open mind. Jung had a near death expirence where he encountered the divine the NDE happened before NDE's became a craze he used his NDE to help forumlate his archtypal psychology. seems like pretty heavy stuff coming from an expirience that some negate to hallucinations of a oxigen deprived brain eh?:)

some things to consider...

-a belief can be true or false.
-to know something, you must have a true, justified belief. if there are no true beliefs, then no one can know anything.
-some beliefs are more valid than others. if this weren't the case, then all beliefs would be equal. logic tells us that not all beliefs are equal.
- can someone present a logical argument for the existence of God? yes. can someone present a logical argument for the non-existence of God? yes.
-will the possibility of the existence in God always remain? yes. it is impossible for this possibility to not exist. it is also possible that the non-existence of God could be proven false (if God so chose to reveal himself).
-it would not be smarter to be agnostic if you were presented the truth, but chose to ignore it. you are responsible for your own beliefs.
-strong belief does not necessarily lead to extremism. i have very strong beliefs that my senses do not deceive me. does this make me an extremist? no.
-maintaining a strong belief does not equate to being healthy/unhealthy. an altruist can hold very strong beliefs, but help others.

We must believe in something or we wouldn't be able to interact with the world at all. If we fancy ourselves strict agnostics or skeptics, we close our eyes to the world, though we pretend not to. If we fanatically latch onto an obsolete ideology, we decieve ourselves. The solution is to accept whatever theory is best, but only tenatively. If it is God you are interested in, investigate Process Theology (Alfred North Whitehead) and the Omega Point Theory (Frank Tipler, etc.) These theories incorporate all the 'goodness' or explainatory power of earlier theories while superseding them and maintaining compatibility with other 'best' theories we have.

Carl Jung said about God that he didnt just believe in God..but he KNEW there was a God...

the absence of faith is reason. Be reasonable.

[remember here that I am NOT talking about the Judeo-Christian Diety..I am talking about the real God]

I believe that God made us all..and gave us magic to help us deal with our lives..I have met and used some of my magic...I think we have everything we need to live our lives..and that when we ask for more..it falls upon deaf ears. I do believe tho that if circumstances warrent intervention..that it does come..only its not what you expect..and certainly not what you wanted..at least at the time. When dealing with a being that can see a million years down the tunnel..seeing our little lives here is kinda tricky..dont expect change overnight..but maybe you should..just remember..the change is going to manifest itself for the next 40 years or so....since God works long-term..it cannot be but that way.

hope this helped you.

No, it's not a "wasted effort." Now I'd like to explain "extremism." Extremism does not come from an unshakeable belief. It's origin can be traced to humankind's insane need to control others. Kind of like the "bully" saying "My way is the only way, so you better believe it, or I'm gonna kick your butt."
To my knowledge Jesus,Mohammed, nor Moses ever said anything of the sort. Even Einstein said he got into science to try to think like God.

Will you be relieved and bladder be emptied, if I urinate? Whether you are Einstien or Jung, if you start with belief, you are finished there. If you start by questioning and end with a belief is something half tried. If you keep questioning further, you will be enlightened.

You should walk your life by yourself to have an answer for you. Do not think that your hunger will be cured if I take food.

Belief in the truth is worth when it can be proven.

Also strong unshakable belief is healthy when one realize it is true.

Extremism is a good word in the aspect, but now the world is using it in a negative meaning.

Study the metaphysical application of the theory of superposition and find unbelievably uplifting beauty in what it teaches you...

GOD, to some, is the superposition of all that exists. YOU decide the unique position of what exists for you, and grow from knowing the REASON for those decisions...

See the movie: "What the Bleep Do We Know?" for illustrations on this and other ideas...

Good Luck :)

To believe anything is someone who will be fooled by others.
To believe nothing is a lonely person.

Belief what you believe, and don't what you don't.

If you believe god, couse there's a lot of question that has no answers, keep it that way.

If you don't believe god, and want the answers for the question with no answers, just wait time to answer the unanswered question, it's scientists job to find out.

If you don't believe god because you can't see him, that's believe what you see.

If you believe universe is God's sim city... that's unique, keep it :)

if you believe something, live with it.
if you don't believe something, find the answers or just live with it.

you can live with any of your choice, cause believe or not, you are the one who live with your body, not God.

No one knows what is really happened when you die 'cause no one can prove it.

No belief in "anything" is not a wasted effort..Belief is inter-realted with all relations....either it is the relation of God & slave or any other relation...But i think there should be a strong unshakable belief...so that it can never lead u to doubts...
Thanks,
Sumiya....
