start, settings, control panel, sound and (blah), sound and volume, check "place volume icon in taskbar"
once the volume control is there by the clock, double click it, and use it.
Simpler answer, look for a rotary volume on the front or side of the system. It will appear as a convex piece of plastic sticking out of a very small slot in the front or ide of the system. ) <--looks like a volume control.

Many laptop models also have a volume control on two of the keys while holding the Function (Fn) key (it's usually blue). Look for volume or speaker icons next to each other on two of your keys, one larger and one smaller, and try the larger one while holding down the Fn key. Good luck. Maybe you just have your "Mute" setting on?

If the buttons on your laptop don't work, you can try going to your BIOS at startup and selecting "restore factory settings"
Also, getting the latest BIOS revision may help.
The previous answer will work for volume control for the time being.
