Hi. My family and I live in Ghana and my children attend school here (ages 11, 8 and 5). Obviously, they are not taught American history in school. My concern is when we return to NJ in a few year's time, my children will not do as well in American history or social studies. So, what are schools teaching 5th, 6th and 7th graders in history or social studies? Any websites I can visit that could help us?

We have limited access to US study books, and there are only a few books on homeschooling which appear to have very limited content on history.

Many thanks for your help.

5th grade is american history. i went to 6th grade in Nj and we studied ancient civilizations such as mesopotamia, china, indus river, nile river, and the stone age etc. 7th grade is world geography using the 5 characteristics of a region to define it which are location, place, human environmental interaction, movement, and region. i recommend going online to www.phschool.com you can search each topic and have ur kids take tests online and get them familar with the subject matter.

Contact the school district and get a copy of their curriculum. They'd be happy to oblige a concerned parent, such as yourself.
