You don't have to pay $1200-2000 for a good turbo, but this is NOT a part you want to skimp on. I have a WRX wagon that drops 312 whp, and I used a IHI VF22 (ported) that cost me $679. You don't have to spend crazy money, especially when you can get a 16G for $599, and others close by. Buying used is a seriously bad gamble, as is buying some Ebay junk...

Buy from a reputable store, and make sure it has at least a 1 year warranty.

Get you a good used one. Just be sure to check the bearings for play. I would recommend getting one from something fairly common in case you need to replace it.
