Pay attention from here on out. Nobody says probably correctly! They say prolly, pry, probly, but rarely do you hear someone say pro-ba-bly!

Blame William Caxton. Until the development of printing, there was no "correct" spelling in English. Caxton was one of the first printers in England. In order to print books, he needed to decide how words were spelled. It was natural to him to spell each word as it was pronounced *in the region where he was born*. People from other areas of Britain pronounced words very differently, but Caxton's spellings stuck, since he published so many great works. Times changed, and how words were pronounced changed with them, but we still spell words the way Caxton did.

They pick it up from how everyone else says it. Maybe it's like Bush always saying "Nuc-u-lar" when it's "Nu-cle-ar." Doesn't it make you feel secure that a man who could launch a nuclear strike at the push of a button can't even pronounce it?

lazy tongue- ignorant- don't care
Those are the only reasons I can think of for WHY we PROBABLY have this problem :-)

Another pet peeve of mine is when young people refer to the mother or father of someone's baby as "that's his baby mother" or "that's her baby daddy"
It's worse than people saying "axe" instead of "ask" ie: Ax if your still grounded/ax for some money, etc.
WHAT"S WRONG WITH THIS LATEST GENERATION OF PARENTS ???
