I was clubbing in and around London and Manchester from 1990 to 1994.
Now, I do most of my clubbing in Barcelona, as it has the same vibe that England had fifteen years ago.
When I go clubbing in London these days, it is good, but it's missing something. The fact that the scene isn't new anymore gives it a slightly less adventurous touch, a kind of "deja vu", which takes the surprise away from it.
It was only "better" in those days if you were there yourself - what you get these days is still very cool.

the early 90's were the best days for clubbing&raving, when the big boys put on raves like Fantazia, Vision, Dreamscape etc. the music of the 90's is still around in clubs today with numerous remixes, but the atmosphere is not the same as back in the day. Tiger-Lilly i can see right up your skirt from down here lol x

during the error of funk African-American society tapped into it's inner core (ie) affliction, societal abuse, poverty the like. the call to arms was to allow ones self to be freed from the inside out instead of the modern day outside in through human inter-action (ie) live bands not computers.
clubbing as you see it today isn't the same because the natural rhythm of the human being has been replaced by anatomic beats from a sound machines. people just don't get the natural energy of the rise and fall of the human spirit. clubbing was better back in the day because you respected and knew people you were around.
old skool was about people going to school and trying to get ahead that's were most of the band members learned to play an instrument and singers learn notes. this has all changed no school equal no skool now must of our youth are uncool

Well no offense but I think if you were clubbing in 1988 then you shouldnt be clubbing in 2006 :-P.......only joking. But to answer your question I guess the answer would have to be yes! Most clubs these days play music from those times rather than more modern music (or re-mixes of those old songs) plus more retro bars are opening...maybe the oldies are the best??

Come on, we all know that the 1970s was the best time (or is this also a case of rose tinted glasses?)

I liked it between 1978-1983 and again between 1994-1997. But, those are the two times I was in love.
