With Chess openings being fished out of new ideas and Players replaying the same known paths again and again is it time to spice the game up with expanded board and additional pieces to make it interesting again?

What about the current iteration is not interesting?
Surely you aren't suggesting that you know every opening in the books? Midgame and endgame are where the variation and excitement are anyway.

A long time ago, my brother and I used to play with the same rules, but untill all possible pieces had been taken, not just the king. But that was not chess.

It'll be ages till all possible combinations of moves have been tried. Have you got any idea how many possible combinations there are, only with the rules as they are now?

And anyway, I don't agree on something. I don't really think chess is not interesting any more. I still like it. If you're bored, I suggest you to stop playing for a while, and then you'll be interested again.

There are lots of chess variants available. My favorite is Knightmare Chess by Steve Jackson Games. It is a deck of cards that allows players to change the rules of the game while it is in progress. There is also Knightmare Chess 2 which adds more cards to the game. You may also want to try Bosworth, a four-player Chess variant by Out of the Box.

Bobby Fischer, former Chess champion of the world, recommends Random Chess. The units in each player's back row are randomized so standard openings are rendered useless.

You may want to try other abstract games. There are some good ones out there. Rio Grande Games has Pueblo, Torres and Carcassonne just to name a few. May I suggest you go to www.boardgamegeek.com and search for abstract games and look for the highest rated and most played ones?
