This is a tough question as there have been so many amazing snowboarders. I'll list a couple who I think have had a huge impact on the sport.

Damien Sanders:

Yeah, I'm sure most of you have never heard of him but you should find out all you can. This is the guy that made snowboarding extreme. He was hucking backflips off 60 footers in the mid 80's on crap equipment and hardboots. He was also the most famous snowboarder of his time with hugh sponsorships from Avalanche, OP, Swatch and many more. He even starred in a McDonalds commercial. He didn't compete so much but he and his friends pretty much established the way snowboard films are made. Check out Snowboarders in X-ile and Critical Condition. These are early snowboard flicks that are the start of boarders going hugh. Honorable mentions from this era go to Tom Burt, Steve Graham, Dave Seone, Chris Roach and Shawn Farmer all of who were my idols as I was growing up with snowboarding.

Craig Kelly.

Shame on anyone who hasn't heard of this guy. This is the man most responsible for putting Burton on the map (with the obvious exception of Jake Burton himself). His style is what I strive for today. So smooth and so fluid. He never went the biggest or spun the most...he just made everything he did look beautiful. We lost Craig a few years ago in an avalanche while guiding a backcountry tour in Canada. While he may be gone, he has left his mark on the world of snowboarding that will be there forever.
"Craig Kelly is my Copilot"

Terje Haakonsen

This is the best snowboarder in the world. He has taken the fearlessness from the likes of Damien Sanders and the style of Craig Kelly and mixed it with a talent that is unsurpassed by anyone. Whether it be boosting out of the pipe or tearing down a first descent in Alaska, Terje is on a level all his own. You don't see too much of him anymore as I think he focuses a bit more on surfing but when he makes an appearance it is definately something to behold.

The New Guys:

Shawn White

Yeah, the kid is amazing and he's got a bright future ahead of him. He hasn't made it to the level of the guys I've already mentioned but he will. I'm sure everyone here has heard of him and I don't think I need to say more.

Jeremy Jones

I'm talkin' the big mountain Jeremy, not the jibber. While not exactly a new guy he's definitely still very much involved with the scene today. Here is a guy that will be underrated by most in the snowboard community because you will never see him in the X-Games or in the Olympics. This guy straight-lines mountains (yeah thats right mountains, not runs) bigger than most people have ever even seen. He rides faces that most would call a cliff and he does it all with a unique, quietly confident style that'll take your breath away. Jeremy is one of the only snowboarders to be regularly featured in Ski films (which I say is a hugh compliment) because, well because he rules.

That's my take. There are so many great snowboarders out there and some of the greatest are the local mountain rippers who aren't famous and just ride because they love it. That is really where the true heart of snowboarding is. I can't wait to see who the next kid on the scene is and what they are going to bring to this great sport.

He grow to be skiing on a green run and fell and hit his head perplexing. He fell lower back on a later run (no longer almost as perplexing) and grow to be knock subconscious. He grow to be airlifted to a scientific institution and interior hours from the accident he had concepts surgical technique. Then grow to be in a coma for 2 weeks and the Dr's did no longer comprehend if he grow to be going to stay or die. He grow to be donning a helmet yet that did no longer make a distinction. What saved him grow to be the undeniable fact that he grow to be 28 years previous. whilst you're making skiers and snowboarders placed on helmets they are going to be renting them on the hill (as my husband did). as quickly as a helmet gets into an accident as quickly as that's no longer affective. there is not any way for a ski hill to demonstrate screen that. i think of helmets are super and if we ever went and skied or snowboarded lower back we might certainly placed on one. My element is this grow to be a thoroughly freak accident and saying that it may of been prevented had she been donning a helmet isn't the case in any respect.Skiers fall often devoid of doing any injury. All skiers must be made conscious that a head injury could be severe, even however no longer something shows and that they sense superb, and get it appeared at as we talk. If a skier falls and isn't able to arise or loses understanding, they must be dealt with by way of the Ski Patrol and despatched for scientific interest. contained related to severe skiers, using a helmet must be the norm. when you consider that they are identifying directly to place themselves right into a intense threat subject, then they should additionally placed on the needed secure practices kit and be arranged to take the implications of any mishaps.

The weed-smoking guy from Whistler who won at Nagano, and then beat the rap. He's awsome because he got rich with "second-hand smoke" brand boards and now he's planning a comeback for 2010.
