The friendliest, most open and warm city (that is actually warm :) is in Eureka Springs, Arkansas. They have lots of bars, tourist shops, Art galleries, antiques, etc etc.
Everyone is welcomed there, no matter of race/religion/or whatever. It is an extremely gay friendly city. There is also a lake nearby and a beautiful river, boating, fishing, gorgeous cabins, hotels, and great food! You should try it, and they also have twice a year, the gay festivals on the streets of Eureka. Go to Eureka Springs Chamber of Commerce to check out the website and if you pull up Eureka Springs in a search, it will come up with lots of info. Also a website that will describe how gay friendly the town is, etc etc.
Good luck and I hope you are able to check it out!

The most overtly gay friendly place is San Francisco. They have Gay Pride parades, and they also have the Gay Leather Parade (imagine hundreds of gay men walking down the street wearing very little, and lots of them holding whips and chains). They are famous for the Castro district, and there are rainbow flags that fly from the streetlights in the district. The gay and lesbian community is very active in SF. If you are walking down the street in San Francisco it is a common occurrence to see men holding hands together. They are not looked at strangely and are treated like everyone else. Frankly I almost feel like I see more gay men than I do straight men. There are a ton of gay clubs and gay bars, excellent shopping, museums, and cultural events, so there's a lot to do for entertainment. The climate of San Francisco is temperate, because it is on the water. It has moderate winters and summers that aren't roastingly hot, but are nice.

I think that Orlando, Florida is a big center. San Francisco is known as the best place to be gay in, but it's not so warm. If I was gay and was looking for a warm city, I'd definetly head down to Florida.
